Hotel del Rijo in Sancti Spiritus City

The Hotel del Rijo is a comfortable colonial style hotel, easy to find amid the streets of the ancient Sancti Spiritus dated 1514, it is the fourth village among the first seven founded by the Spaniards in Cuba, and the only one with a Latin name.

It is located at 12 Honorato del Castillo Street, in Sancti Spiritus, 75 miles from the historic city of Trinidad, about 360 miles west from Jose Marti International Airport in Havana City.

The Hotel del Rijo emerged from the ruins of an old large family house built between 1818 and 1827.

During the 19th century, the building was the residence of an illustrious medical doctor, Don Rudesindo Garcia Rijo.

After a meticulous reconstruction work the building opened its doors on November 18, 2001 transformed into one of the most attractive buildings in the city.

In 2007 Hotel del Rijo became in an Encanto Hotel.

The majestic facade of the Hotel del Rijo is highlighted by several iron bars and a beautiful nailed wooden great hall door, all decorated in celestial blue with marble-like veins.

As valuable as the ceiling and carpentry are the mural paintings and sculptures of the overall decoration.

The Hotel del Rijo has a privileged location. It is perfect for visitors who want to explore this wonderful city, discover its traditions, customs and the genuinely Cuban way of life.

Hotel del Rijo has a magnificent view of the Main Parochial Church nearby the bridge on the Yayabo river, both national monuments. Visitors are back in time while they walk through the 19th narrow streets.

Nigel Alexander Hunt

Welcome to my site dedicated to the famous and historical Hotel del Rijo. I am "poco a poco" researching and updating it with the aim to provide as complete as possible record of the hotel's ancient and recent history; bearing in mind that the goings-on today may one day be of historical interest.

My site is NOT the official website of the current hotel operator, and is by no means endorsed by them; but I am grateful for their help with the research.

You can make from this site room reservations through the Bizloco eTravel System operated by Cubaism Ltd.

Best wishes for 2014
